Study Club

Do you sometimes feel that your clinical practice has reached its pinnacle? or,
Are you bored with the daily routine of general dentistry? or,
Do you encounter cases when you feel you wish you had a colleague you could discuss with?
Yes, you can refer the patient to hospital and get a written treatment plan. Wouldn’t it be lot more exciting and rewarding instead to discuss the case in person with a consultant? And, at the same time, share your experiences with other colleagues who are in a similar situation as you are.
The Cream Tea Study Club@SDS may give you a whole new outlook on dentistry and excite you in reaching out to newer challenges. The incredible opportunity to be able to engage and exchange ideas on treatment planning for your cases with a Consultant and other colleagues is unique and rewarding in terms of continuing education.
An afternoon of clinical conversation, learning about new techniques and materials, generating debates and discussions – is what this study club is all about. The experience will broaden your dental horizon and take you to the next level.
In order to maximise the benefit from these meetings, you must bring the following material on your patient:
- Updated radiographs
- Study casts – preferably mounted on a semi-adjustable articulator
- An outline of case presentation and your proposed treatment plan
- Clinical photographs – optional
Apart from sharing clinical knowledge and experience, we hold these meetings over scones, clotted cream, sandwiches and tea.
Cases you may wish to discuss:
- Restorative multi-disciplinary treatment planning
- Complex restorative cases
- Toothwear cases
- Treatment planning with implants
- Aesthetic planning
- Periodontally involved cases
- Endodontic dilemmas
Best of all, the meeting includes CPD certificate and there are no fees to pay!

“To me the cream tea study club is the perfect opportunity to discuss clinical cases with a highly regarded and highly trained and experienced restorative specialist. The study club includes a short lecture form another clinical or specialised service provider for dentists, giving the opportunity to learn about different aspects linked to dentistry. This guest speaker is followed by a sumptuous cream tea and a short break- giving the mind a recess.
The second half of the study club gives the opportunity for the attendees to discuss personal cases and problems associated with treatments in our own practices. Something unique and of great advantage to improve clinical skills and knowledge. Highly recommended to all dentists alike as they is always new knowledge acquired in a relaxed and pleasant environment.“

“The study group was hugely entertaining I learnt more in four hours with Shak than in a week of standard courses’.
…excellent fun. The four hours shot by. There were only six of us. We weren’t afraid to confess to some basic difficulties… Shak was very helpful and in addition to enlightening us on starrier subjects like implants, patiently told us how to do a decent white filling.
The study group was hugely useful , entertaining and free!.
We were even fed a delicious fattening tea.. I kept wondering what the catch was..,
Shak was most helpful in advising me about the patient who was coming in on Monday with the ever failing bridge”

“Many thanks for our trip through treatment planning and it’s pitfalls, the importance of ‘history’ and so on.”

“I have been to 2 study clubs now run by Dr Shahdad-learning has happened in a relaxed and interactive way. I am so grateful for being invited to be member of the club, as I value the advice and teaching. As general practitioners, it is often difficult to ask for, and get good advice.
Dr Shahdad makes all feel very welcome and gives his valuable time to facilitate learning–we cannot I feel, get better teaching as he is at the top of his career, but unlike most at his level he is extremely humble.
I have already learnt a lot from him, and feel that I now have somewhere to go for advice. I feel comfortable enough to ask anything, in the study group, as he makes each member feel valued, whatever their level of knowledge is.
The food also, thanks to Zoe is great and worth making the trip into London for !”
