Shakeel Shahdad
Shakeel is a Consultant and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry at Barts and The London, Queen Mary’s School of Medicine and Dentistry, where he is involved in training of future specialists and postgraduate students. He has a special interest in Implant Dentistry and is the clinical lead for postgraduate implant training.
Apart from teaching and training responsibilities at the Institute, he lectures both nationally and internationally on various aspects of restorative dentistry, in particular implant dentistry, gum surgery and tooth wear. He runs various hands-on courses for qualified dentists, which are very highly rated.

“Optimising Implant Placement in Aesthetic Zone” - Surgical Day
Specialist Dental Services, 7 Wimpole Street, London
This 1 day course will allow delegates to interact with the operator on issues that are essential for achieving optimal aesthetic result when restoring missing teeth with implants in the aesthetic zone. The main highlight of the day will be a live surgery, during which the delegates will get an opportunity to get up close and personal!
Delegates will participate and view a live surgery in aesthetic zone, involving 3-dimensional placement with simultaneous guided bone regeneration.
Time will be dedicated for interactive discussion relevant to the topic.
This course will suit clinicians who have some experience in placing dental implants but want to gain experience and enhance their skills in meeting the demands and complexities of aesthetic zone.

The aim of this course is to discuss various periodontal surgical options, including their indications and principles. A hands-on session will provide an opportunity to carry out surgery on pigs jaws.
Content:
• Why do periodontal surgery?
• Principles of periodontal surgery and importance of plaque control
• Types of periodontal surgery
• Surgical access and pocket elimination
• Guided tissue and bone regeneration
• Hands-on (pigs jaws): simple periodontal surgery, gingivectomy, and guided tissue regeneration carried out on special periodontal surgical models.
By end of the day you should be aware of:
• Indications of periodontal surgery
• Importance of initial non-surgical periodontal management
• Importance of plaque control in periodontal disease
• Types of periodontal surgery
• Rationale of guided tissue / bone regeneration
You should also get hands-on experience in (pigs jaws)
• access and pocket elimination surgery and

Following the live surgery (surgical day), another opportunity for you to spend one day learning various restorative techniques that are a key to achieving ideal aesthetics when restoring implants.
You will be involved in an interactive discussion on the various factors and techniques to manipulate provisional restorations, customising impression copings and selection of appropriate definitive restoration to achieve an ideal aesthetic outcome – time after time!
There will be an opportunity to see these procedures being carried out on patients including abutment connection surgery, and fabrication and manipulation of provisional restorations.
This course would be particularly suitable for delegates who attended the “surgical part of this course” but would also be an ideal course for any clinician restoring implants.
